Ghana’s national team boss Avram Grant believes that the media are not helping Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho with their numerous stories about being poor.
Mourinho is under intense pressure to turn around the fortunes of the club, which won the league title only seven months ago. However, the club has fallen to an extent where they are now in a relegation battle with the season almost at Christmas. This has led to fears that Chelsea may finally lose patience with the manager, who has given the club the most success. Mourinho still enjoys a lot of popularity amongst Chelsea fans despite the poor form.
This certainly was not the case whenGrant was manager of the club. Even though Chelsea lost the league title only on goal difference to Manchester United and went on to get defeated in the Champions League on penalties,Grant was never popular at Stamford Bridge. Now the manager of Ghana, the Israeli says that Mourinho does not become a bad manager overnight. Instead, the club should give him an opportunity to at least turnaround the situation. Chelsea, though, will be very concerned about the lack of Champions League football league season. The blues have done very poor only in the league, whereas they have topped their Champions League group.
"It is not easy, but I think Jose deserves a chance. I didn't like when they made him the genius, and I don't like what they are doing to Jose now, saying 'He is useless' or something. It is not like this, it is too extreme. He is a good coach but, like any other person, he is facing tough times. He needs to show he can handle pressure but don't judge him only by the quality of his interviews when he is under pressure. He is a good coach, a nice guy, and he can get out of it, for sure," said Grant.
