The first match of Martin O’Neil as the head coach of Ireland was back in November 2013 when Republic of Ireland played with Poland and had to settle with a 0-0 draw. O’Neil so far has coached his national side through 7 matches but only being able to secure 1 victory, it hasn’t exactly been able to pick up positive results.
Despite not getting a fair amount of triumphs since being appointed as the manager of Republic of Ireland, Martin O’Neil still remains quite hopeful about the near future of his team and of all the obstacles that are inching closer and closer.
A few weeks away from now Martin O’Neil will have the task of guiding Republic of Ireland into the upcoming 2016 Euro’s as they have to face off with Georgia, Gibraltar, Germany and Scotland before the year concludes.
Martin O’Neil is not as concerned about those matches as he talked during a press conference and went on saying that he will be relying on his current squad for his next international matches but the Northern Ireland coach is hoping and expecting that younger and talented players will arrive to the team.
“I’m hoping that over the course of the next 10 to 12 months maybe some of the young lads will come through, maybe from League of Ireland, you never know, but also, I presume, in Britain, lads that can take their place and be worthy of playing and actually be comfortable playing. That’s in the not too distant future, I hope. But obviously with the games coming up I’ll probably be relying on a lot of the squad that I’ve had for the last number of weeks.” Martin O’Neil said.
